Button and Brawn GP nominated in Laureus awards

12 February 2010 @ 12:30 GMT - Charles Cooper

F1 champion Jenson Button and the Brawn GP team have been nominated for the prestigious Laureus World Sports awards. Button is nominated in the 'Breakthrough of the Year' category for winning the 2009 F1 title.

The Brawn GP team is nominated for the team of the year award after the trouble they had before the season started and then to go on and win the title. None of the F1 drivers were nominated for the World Sportsman of the year award.

MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi is however in the running for the award. The nominations came from the world's media and were announced by Mika Hakkinen who drove for McLaren.

The winners will be announced at an event in Abu Dhabi next month. They will be selected by a jury of 46 of the world's greatest ever sports men and women.
