Today marked the end of winter testing in preparation for the Formula 1 World Championship, at the Catalunya Circuit, near Barcelona.

Having driven the F10 on its track debut in Valencia a month ago, it fell to Felipe Massa to bring Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro’s testing to a close. Today, the Brazilian driver had a packed programme, working on evaluating the handling of the car and the Bridgestone tyres under different fuel loads. Felipe completed a total of 114 laps, the quickest in a time of 1.20.539.

Morning

The last morning of the testing had a very interesting twist to it during the last 90 minutes as of 11:30am. As expected it was the moment to discover the real performance deployment and many went onto the track with a small fuel load on board. The outcome on the time sheet, with the unknown factor of the tyres used and the real fuel load on board – because even five or ten litres can make the difference – is not far from what has been expected. The four cars in the lead where less than three tenths of a second apart: Hamilton was the fastest with a lap time of 1.20.472, followed by Massa 67 thousandths of a second behind, Vettel (195) and Schumacher (273). Behind these four drivers there was the Williams with Barrichello (1.20.925), confirming this car’s competitiveness. As far as we could see today, this will be a very uncertain Championship.
