Ferrari's Felipe
Massa believes that his former teammate Michael Schumacher was lucky
that his plans to make a return to F1 last season fell through. The
Italian squad asked Schumacher to replace Massa after the Brazilian's
Hungarian GP accident.
Schumacher had
call of his comeback due to a neck injury caused by a motorcycle
accident in February 2009. The discussions with Ferrari have
reawakened his enthusiasm for F1 racing which led to his full-time
return with Mercedes GP this season.
Massa reckons a
return last year would have been an anti-climax for the seven times
world champion after Luca Badoer and Giancarlo Fisichella struggled
so badly. "I was not sure it was the right time for Michael,
because our car was not so quick as he'd had in the past," Massa said.
"I think he
was lucky," Massa explained. Massa and Schumacher became good
friends when the Brazilian was testing Ferraris as Schumacher won
title after title. The two were teammates in 2006, the year
Schumacher retired. |
