The ban on
refuelling this season has put a lot of focus on the speed of pit
stops and Red Bull Racing admitted to sending their pit crew for
training with the Olympians in Bisham Abbey. The outfit's team boss
Christian Horner says the training has paid off.
"The guys
have trained like hell over the winter. They have all lost weight and
got fitter in the process. The guys have been training in the gym at
12 and 4pm every day since November," Horner said.
The Red Bull team
has reportedly set an official record of 1.8 seconds while Williams
reckon a sub three seconds will be the norm. "We have done
sub-two second stops. They are absolutely lightning," he said.
"We've always
been fast but now there's been a lot more of a scientific approach to
the whole issue," he said. Teams are spending a lot of money to
reduce the pit stop time with Ferrari designing special quick release
wheel nuts. |
