Virgin Racing not surprised by opposition

08 March 2010 @ 15:00 GMT - Charles Cooper

Virgin Racing's Nick Wirth is not surprised that the current F1 teams have a problem with the new teams in the sport. Especially the new Virgin Racing team who will race this season with a budget under the proposed $45m Euro budget cap propped last.

The outfit designed the car without the use of a wind tunnel and only used CFD. If they are capable of getting close to the top teams the use of expensive wind tunnels and other research and development methods could be worthless.

"I think a lot of the establishment teams will want us to fall flat on our faces," Wirth said. Ferrari were one of the teams who are against the way the new teams entered the sport and Virgin owner Richard Branson said it was sad.

"Ferrari already won the battle to make sure that new teams are shackled. I think the one thing the Virgin team will prove is that you can have a really good racing team, running very fast, within a very tight budget," Branson said. But Branson admitted that it could two or more years to catch up.
