The Hispania
Racing Team (HRT) has signed India's Karun Chandhok for the 2010 F1
season. F1's commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone has welcomed
him to the sport and was instrumental in brokering the rescue package
for the former Campos team.
The outfit was
taken over by Jose Ramon Carabante and new team boss Colin Kolles.
Chandhok will drive alongside fellow GP2 race winner Bruno Senna in
2010.
Ecclestone said
India is among the most important and powerful players in the world
of business culture and sport. "Bernie has always been a superb
pillar of support to me and my family," Chandhok said.
"It's amazing
how much that man (Ecclestone) can do in a single day!" Chandhok
added. It's going to be a difficult Friday for the HRT team with two
rookie drivers and a car that has never turned a wheel.
"Of course
everyone wants to drive for a top team, but if the opportunity isn't
there you have to evaluate the options. Undoubtedly I would rather be
racing for HRT than a test driver somewhere else under the new
regulations," he said. |
