McLaren prepared a revised rear wing as part of a contingency plan

09 March 2010 @ 15:00 GMT - Roger Loop

The FIA's technical delegate Charlie Whiting will inspect McLaren's rear wing on Thursday at Bahrain. He was scheduled to do it on Friday, but due to flight issue he could not make it.

The Red Bull Racing team feels that it's not legal and called on the governing body to inspect it. McLaren remains confident that it is legal, but the team has decided to have a different wing and engine cover ready as part of a contingency plan.

"We're not taking a radically different package, but you just never know what the stewards are going to do on the day. We get the best advice we can from the FIA in the interests of transparency," he said.

"If the stewards decide on a different course of action though, it's still our duty to go racing. So we have a contingency, but I wouldn't put much effort into it and I'm not expecting it to be used," he said.

Red Bull Racing's team boss Christian Horner says his outfit is looking at a similar design for a future upgrade. Neale believe they would not be able to copy the idea in its entirety."They have a pretty good idea of what's going on with our car. They won't have figured it all out, but they'll be close," he said.
