Button looking forward to sit on the grid with the number one on his car

10 March 2010 @ 06:13 GMT - Charles Cooper

Jenson Button is looking forward to the start of the season after a long winter. He feels honoured because it will be his first time he will have the number one on his car.

The first race of the season kicks of this Sunday at Bahrain and brings to an end the long wait. "I'm actually really looking forward to the start of the season. It will be a thrill and an honour to sit on the grid with the number one on my car," he said.

The McLaren driver says he won't think too much of the drivers who want to take it away from, but he wants to keep the title this season. "It'll actually be the first time in my car racing career that that's ever happened - but I won't be spending too much time thinking about the drivers who want to take it away from me," he said.

Obviously, my aim is to retain the title and we'll need to start the year extremely strongly if we're going to achieve that because, more than ever these days, world championships seem to be won at the start of the season rather than at the end of it," he said.

That was the case for Button who had a superior car last season and won six of the first seven races. But he might not have the same advantage this season and he has a very competitive teammate in Lewis Hamilton.
