Heidfeld says Red Bull Racing will have the edge in Bahrain

10 March 2010 @ 11:30 GMT - Max Moore

Mercedes GP's reserve driver Nick Heidfeld says Red Bull Racing will have the edge over its rival at this weekend's Bahrain grand prix. It is the first race of the 2010 F1 season and is eagerly anticipated by many people.

During pre-season testing four teams appeared to have similar pace at the sharp end of the timesheets and they are Ferrari, Red Bull Racing, McLaren and Mercedes GP. Most of the teams will not have much if any upgrades for the opening race.

But Mercedes GP has intentionally kept back its major upgrade until this weekend's race. The German press is referring to a super diffuser and the team's boss Ross Brawn confirmed that they intentionally kept it back.

A German newspaper reported that the team tested a new front wing at an airfield in the UK this week. Despite all the enhancements Heidfeld still believes Red Bull Racing will have the edge at Bahrain.

"The Red Bull is clearly the best car. It's almost frightening how easily Vettel and Webber are able to drive it at the limit," he said. The German reckons Red Bull Racing has disguised its true pace by running more fuel than its rivals in testing.
