F1's commercial
rights holder Bernie Ecclestone says the new teams are proof that $5
million Euro budget cap is not enough to run a competitive team. The
Ferrari team recently criticised the new teams for their slow pace
during testing.
Another big issue
is the new HRT team who has not even turned a wheel, but is allowed
to race this weekend. "Ferrari is right," he told a German newspaper.
When the new teams
signed up they did so under the budget cap rule, but that did not
become a reality. It is mainly due to Ferrari president Luca di
Montezemolo who led the war against the budget cap last year.
"I always
warned that a budget limit would not work. Now the new teams find
that their budgets are not sufficient," he said. The garage
doors of the new HRT team were not opened at all on Wednesday at Bahrain.
The team's rookie
driver Bruno Senna says team will concentrate on installation laps
during Friday's two free practice sessions. "We can think about
the setup early on Saturday. I just hope we can get the car onto the
track and eliminate as many problems as possible," he said. |
